ARCHIVED NEWS (AUGUST - OCTOBER 1999):

Event Horizon reference to Aliens (Sunday 17 October 1999 16.00 hrs NL-time)
Those of you who saw the sf/horror movie "Event Horizon" (1997) must have recognized the obvious links to the 2nd Alien movie. Event Horizon is about a salvage mission to a spaceship with hyperdrive capabilities that has been lost for seven years and reappeared near Neptune afterwards.

A group of specialists go to the ship and are joined by its designer (played by Sam Neill). They want to find out what happened all those years. While they travel through the solarsystem, the crew is in hypersleep. When they are near Neptune, they get instructions and discussion, also just like in Aliens. Some of the phrases used are almost identical. Check this movie out at http://www.eventhorizonmovie.com. I enjoyed it, although it's not a classic. Some of the soundtrack music is made by Orbital.

New links for AvP (Monday 4 October 1999 18.55 hrs NL-time)
Two new links to fanbased websites (Diehards website and the AvP Resource Page) for the Aliens vs Predator game. You will find the URL's on the links section or by clicking here.

Dark City (Saturday 25 September 1999 12.30 hrs NL-time)
Not so much Alien related news at the moment. Therefore a movie-tip I would to share with you. If you haven't seen Dark City (1998) yet, go for it to see it on DVD or video. This film is a mix-up of Blade Runner (40%), a 50's dectective (50%) and Hellraiser (10%). It's about a city that is being altered by strange creatures that can 'tune'. A young guy has lost his memories and is searching for the truth in this desolate place, while he is being accused of a murder. I can't tell you more, because the story is one of the surprises of the movie. Just like the visuals and sounds. Keifer Sutherland and William Hurt are some of the actors.

If you want to know more, visit the special website www.darkcity.com which is as great and mysterious as the movie is.

Gattaca (Sunday 19 September 1999 00:15 hrs NL-time)
It's not featuring aliens or Jean-Claude van Damme, but Gattaca is one great science fiction movie. I just saw it on DVD this week. In a near future everybodies DNA print is available in central gouvernment databases and all kind of predictions can be made from it for purpose of getting children or your career. Unperfect people are becoming lowlife. Within this sinister future, a young guy wants to become an astronaut, but his DNA will not allow him. Therefore he uses other means.... The film has a great atmosphere and sometimes remembered me also about Blade Runner.  Uma Thurman is one of the great actors. The story develops in an exiting way and all visuals are marvelous, even when you know this movie hasn't had a million dollars budget. Go see it! More info on the official site.

Derek's Alien Page (Saturday 18 September 1999 23:50 hrs NL-time)
The links section has been extended with a URL to Derek's Alien Page. Don't forget the "Funnies Section" when you check out his page and tell him AliensNL sent ya'!

A new audio track at Orphic Soundz (Saturday 11 September 1999 8:50 hrs NL-time)
The Orphic Soundz website offers an Realaudio excerpt of my new triphop based audio track called "J.A.G.". Take a listen over at http://www.orphic.nl/soundz, relax, and await more Alien news.

Alien5 rumour, changed AvP menu graphics (Monday 30 August 1999 23:45 hrs NL-time)
Some new unconfirmed rumours about Alien5 have been spread around the internet. Here is an excerpt from the info I received from the Alien Legend website who apparently got the info from the Alien Movie Resource Page (both sites are at the Links page):

** From ALIEN Movie Resource Page: "Hudson (hey! Maybe the "real" Hudson!!) passed along an actual bit of news related to ALIEN 5. The new issue of the `Total Film'  magazine clearly states that there is a script for Alien V, Sigourney is aboard and is working as Executive Producer, and is currently looking for a sutable director. Release Date March 2000. Well, a release date of March 2000 would indicate that filming would be going on right now. So this Total Film mag doesn't know what it is talking about. Remember, the earliest this film could come out is in late 2001...and that is the absolute earliest!" **

The menu on the left has been changed: the click-image for the Aliens versus Predator has been changed, as the one I used before, was a logo from the cardgame and had nothing to do with the computergame version. Thanks go out to a careful reader of AliensNL !

Orphic Soundz music update (Wednesday 25 August 1999 9:00 hrs NL-time)
As was mentioned below in the news section I am also a creator of electronic music (hmm... strange guy that loves aliens and techno). I have started up a special site for it at http://www.orphic.nl/soundz which will contain excerpts in Realaudio. At the moment there are two tracks available (a triphop and a house-track), both in two versions for slow and fast internet connections. More music is coming up this week!

Outland and Alien (Sunday 22 August 1999 9:15 hrs NL-time)
Last night I watched the DVD version of "Outland" the 1981 sf-movie starring Sean Connery, who is a policeman on a miningbase at the planet Io in the future. A good movie which can compete easily with todays flics and I recommend everybody to see it. One of the things that you will discover if you do, is that it's been inspired by the first Alien movie. This already starts with the opening sequence of the movie with a dark space, haunting music (also by Jerry Goldsmith) and the appearing of the movie-title. But also the atmosphere, the settings and the actors (no heroes) are almost the same. There is even an evil company (called Con-Am). I think the mining colony where the Nostromo came back from in Alien, could be this kind of place.

Music!!! (Wednesday 18 August 1999 00:55 hrs NL-time)
Not so much Alien related news. To keep you busy in the meantime, perhaps you like to listen to a musical recording I've made. Under the name of Mind I have created some housemusic and other electronic grooves in the past and present. Recently I start to listen more to drum'n bass and triphop music (I happened to buy a great cd from Klute called "Casual Bodies" today: great drum'n bass music, with path grooves, moody synths and a open production). Anyway, if you want to hear something from Mind and you are able to play Realaudio, just click here to hear an large excerpt of "Finn Bar's Place". I would appreciate your reaction on this piece, as it is not completely finished yet.

Affiliate to the AvsP Network (Monday 9 August 1999 23:35 hrs NL-time)
Not so much news this time, although I am pleased to inform you that AliensNL is now an official affiliate of the famous Aliens versus Predator Network. A great honour, as I always respect those guys for their efforts and great website. Give them a look!
I have to archive this news page at short notice, to avoid longer loading times.

Ridley Scott does Lector?! (Thursday 4 August 1999 23:10 hrs NL-time)
The information below is about Ridley Scott might join up the sequel to Silence of the Lambs. The book version is a real hit, but what about the movie if he will direct it. Thanks to Dark Horizons for the news:

** With so much talk about the new "Hannibal", its hard to sort fact from fiction and now Cinescape may have cut through the mess after placing a call to an assistant of Producer Dino De Laurentiis. Ridley Scott is definitely onboard as Director and has had "positive meetings" with both Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, but neither will sign till they've read the screenplay which is being adapted by David Mamet. She said "Dino's aim is to get these two in place first before casting the film further", but nevertheless confirmed that Scott has indeed been in talks with Sarah Michelle Gellar - and both are interested in her participating in the film somehow. Finally the talk of James Woods involvement is just rumour for now, Woods has said he has long wanted to work with Scott but whether they've talked about working together in this project is unknown to this assistant. Thanks to 'Dan'. **
